The main building of the University of Athens, the well-known Propylaea, is part of the "Athenian Trilogy" and was founded in 1839 according to the architectural plans of Hans Christian Hansen.The Propylaea, the building, and its monumental quad comprise not only a place of remembrance but also an open art gallery.

Propylaea building is one of the most iconic places of remembrance of Athens. Its various halls were used for educational purposes but also occasionally have hosted the Hellenic Parliament, the National Library, numerous museums and laboratories. Nowadays the historic building primarily serves administrative and ceremonial purposes.
